Colombian reggaeton artist J Balvin has commissioned a luxury Murakami-Inspired Fidget Spinner.
Los Angeles-based jewelers IF & Co have created two flower-faced fidget spinners for the Colombian artist. Each piece is made of a mix of "18k rose gold, 18k white gold, VVS diamonds, pink sapphires, rubies, precious gemstones, and canary diamonds on an 18k gold chain." For added value and flair, these Murakami-inspired fidget spinners are meant to hang on a chain and be worn as a necklace. J Balvin wrote on his Instagram "I'm just a big kid, with nice toys," referring to the fancy spinners.
With any viral toy craze comes the customization and luxury iterations of the toy. We have already seen luxury spinners in the Massdrop x RAMA WORKS S01 Remedy Spinner and spoof Cartier fidget spinners. This custom Murakami-inspired fidget spinner highlights how deeply entrenched these distraction toys are in today's society.
