Noriko Ambe Cuts Through Books to Create Multiple Eyes

The artist Noriko Ambe, born in Saitama, Japan, makes the most amazing artwork by cutting through layers and layers of papers, usually books, to create layered images, as seen in the gallery above.

These crazy portraits with multiple eye formations look like landscapes forming within each page. Truly amazing work.

"It looks like annual rings of a tree or topographical map or waive, but it isn’t," the artist describes. "It is absolutely the traces of actions of a person, which is me. So to speak, I have been mapping the mysterious land between physical and emotional geography. I want to attain something sublime. The entrance of the way is detail. The detail is the key point of nature, and we are part of nature."
