Mongolian Architecture group HDD created the Mulan Weichang Vistor Center, a cultural center in Hebei province. The space was designed to blend into the surrounding Mongolian grasslands, integrating nature into every design aspect.
The design team decided to pull inspiration from local architecture and use only locally sourced materials such as old stone and wooden beams. As well, the team decided to surround the space with micro landscaping to create a harmonious atmosphere. The main core of the structure is a circular lobby that serves as a local library, while the second storey provides a play area for children.
The Mulan Weichang Vistor Center was carefully created to be a space where people of all ages can come together to learn about the local agriculture, history, and art -- acting as the 'Catcher in the Rye' of the region.
