Mudd Architects have completed a unique bookshelf design for a writer's cabin near Madrid, Spain. The firm was commissioned to create a floor-to-ceiling bookshelf that would span the sloping wall of an asymmetrical pitched roof.
The shelf sits inside a cabin clad in oxidised iron and completed with two glass walls that offer expansive views of the outdoors. The interior of the cabin is finished with dark maple wood that contrasts the light bookshelf. The bookshelf is made of 100 pieces of CNC-cut pine, and curves from the floor towards the ceiling.
Mudd Architects collaborated with digital fabrication studio Girona to test possible assembly methods for the bookshelf. This curvilinear bookshelf design evokes a unique feeling of movement throughout the cabin.
