Metalsmith, Elizabeth Goluch uses gold, silver, copper and gemstones to make these highly detailed metal insect sculptures. Each bug is a one of a kind creation inspired by Goluch's lifelong interest in nature and insects. The artist says she is, “drawn to the beauty, but also to the danger in nature.â€
Each of the intricate pieces also holds a tiny surprise hidden within the bug's body; such as the cicada, which houses a small gemstone music note pendant made of gold. To give you perspective of the size of these sculptures â€" the blue dragonfly's hinged wing span is 11â€, the cicada is 10†long, and the creepy earwig is just shy of 13â€.
