Monstrous Origami Art

These Origami Pieces Depict Creatures from the Monster Hunter Video Games

A Japanese origami enthusiast has devised a way to create extremely intricate origami sculptures of characters from the video game series Monster Hunter. The Monster Hunter series has been a massive hit in Japan, with 17 games being released in just ten years.

Therefore, it made sense to combine the modern Japanese pastime of gaming with one of its most well-known traditional pastimes, origami. The traditional origami creation is a paper crane: graceful and elegant. But Japan's video-game generation prefers more powerful and badass creatures, such as the mountain dragon from Monster Hunter for example.

A user of Japanese video-sharing website Nico Nico Douga filmed videos of him painstakingly creating impressively detailed origami versions of the mountain dragon and other feared creatures from the video games. The videos depict an origami 'map' detailing the folds that need to be made, and feature the user making the folds and creating his finished products. Incredibly, these highly complex origami creations are made out of a single sheet of paper.
