The MMFA's 'Revolution' Explores Social Change in the 1960s

High fidelity audio specialist Sennheiser is helping to bring the MMFA's 'Revolution' to life through immersive sound.

The Montreal Museum of Fine Art's latest exhibit 'Revolution: You Say You Want A Revolution' explores the ways in which the social change and revolutionary attitudes of the 1960s influenced culture today. The exhibit provides patrons with a unique full-sensory experience by exploring all aspects of Western culture from 1966 through 1970 with Quebec-specific content. This vibrant and immersive experience originated at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, an institution that has worked closely with the MMFA to recreate the experience.

The MMFA's Revolution is largely powered by Sennheiser's innovative audio technology. The event spotlights the brand's guidePort system, consisting of a network of motion sensors in conjunction with a small lanyard-worn device with attached headphones. These motion sensors work to signal soundtrack changes when users approach different art pieces -- capturing a different era and mood for each. Additionally, Sennheiser's 'Ambeo' technology creates a fully immersive 3D sound space. This in conjunction with a video recording recreates the feeling of being in the front row at the Woodstock Music Festival of 1969 with high fidelity sound.

The ability to recreate such powerful social experiences can lend significant insight into how this revolutionary period was able to so deeply influence today's world.
