The 'Climate Portal' a new building that has been specially designed to mimic the climate and weather of any location in the world. The device is currently installed in the Stockholm Arland Airport and will allow passengers to experience the climate of their destination before they arrive. As airport Communication Manager Yvonne Boe explains, "we wanted to explore the possibilities of not just moving you to your destination but our destinations to you."
The 'Climate Portal' is hooked up to an Internet service that provides real-time weather information. The room then uses this information to adjust the temperature, sound, light and air in the room to mimic the climate of a particular destination. Of the three Climate Portal rooms, one is designed to mimic hot climates, the second mimics cold climates and the third stimulates the climate of megacities.
While the Climate Portal rooms are certainly a fun experience, they are also practical. The different rooms help passengers plan what they might need in their carry-on luggage in order to prepare for arrival at their destination.
