Mechanical Bugs

Art by Mike Libby

What do you get when you put together a bug and an old watch? Don't know? Mike Libby solved this riddle by creating works of art from a combination of the two.

It happened when the discovery of a dead beetle left him wondering how it would look if it were mechanical inside. Out came an old watch and soon he had created a piece of art. He has now taken the art form to a new level by sourcing his specimens from high quality dealers who deal with insects from all over the world. He then inserts parts from antique watches and invites people to send in their own insects to be used.

As expected, the prices are pretty exorbitant. They start from $250 for a humble bumble bee and range up to $1000 for wily grasshoppers.
