In the past twenty years, contemporary art fairs have become extremely popular, expanding past the realms of the art world itself and multiplying to include nearly every genre, price range and level.
The art world flocks from Basel to Miami to London and back to New York for the largest fairs, but in the next few years, economy permitting, the Feria MACO (Mexico Arte COntemporáneo) in Mexico City will become a new hotspot for the contemporary art world.
This year’s fair will include about 100 galleries from around the world, representing more than 800 artists in over 10,000 square meters of exhibition space. The main section of the fair will host established galleries and the New Proposals section will host young galleries, presenting emerging artists.
For the moment, the majority of the galleries taking part in MACO are European. The MACO preview and opening event is featured yearly in Vogue Mexico.
