Corte Vetusto's 'Mesquite Smoked Mezcal' uses Mesquite wood to inject a smokey flavor in the agave-based spirit.
Each batch is hand-crafted by Juan Carlos Gonzalez Diaz, a fourth generation master distiller. This Mesquite-smoked mezcal is made using only 'Agave Tobala' plants. This artisanal product is a great way to enjoy a piece of authentic Mexican culture without traveling south of the boarder.
To begin the production process, the agave is cooked with Mesquite wood chips in a conical earthen oven to impart a smokey mesquite flavor. The agave is then milled using a volcanic stone called a 'Tahona' which slowly crushes the agave until it reaches a fibrous texture. Juan Carlos Gonzalez Diaz then manually move the agave to an open topped, wooden vat for natural fermentation. Finally, this mezcal is double distilled in a copper pot and then a clay pot still before it is bottled.
