Jaume Sensa is known for his gorgeous mesh sculptures. His latest creations grace the halls of the 400-year-old Church of San Giorgio Maggiore based in Venice, Italy. As soon as visitors enter the historical site, they are greeted with two large-scale mesh sculptures, which happen to be part of the 2015 Venice Art Biennale as well as a larger series dubbed 'Together.'
The first mesh sculpture takes the form of a head while the second is a hand. The latter is actually made out of stainless steel formed using characters from eight different languages. Claire Lilly, the curator, notes, "Plensa’s sculptures do not impose themselves on these historic spaces; rather they capture and reflect the actual light and shadows within to communicate a metaphorical language. Both visually stunning and intimate, they draw our attention to a world where migration and difference challenge civilized behavior."
