A group of researchers working out of Columbia University have collaborated with digital health startup avoMD to create an innovative new mental wellness app that is designed to provide primary care providers and clinicians with the tools and information they need to be able to accurately spot signs of depression in their patients.
The 'Columbia Psychiatry Pathways' app uses existing evidence from medical literature and widely-used screening systems in concert with a high-tech algorithm that allows it to measure the seriousness of symptoms. Severity of patients' situations is measured by using the Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale developed at Columbia University, and is capable of screening for suicide risk as well as conditions like bipolar disorder.
With mental health guidelines evolving fast and clinicians tasked with dealing with a diverse array of patients and conditions, depression can often go undetected, a problem which this mental wellness app is positioned to tackle.
