It was only a matter of time until the Megapad (or something similar) was invented. Although I can't say I'm surprised, seeing a 23-inch touchscreen monitor in action is stunning, to say the least.
It's difficult to deny the public certain technological novelties, however expensive or irreverent. Despite the imprecision of 3-D technology, the consumers have spoken and they want it, forcing researchers back to the drawing boards. This is the case with touchscreen interaction -- no one wants to return to the remote, it's simply anachronistic at this point. Now that our phones, appliances and laptops have newer interfaces, why shouldn't our televisions? Invented by Martin Drashkov, the Megapad is a DIY project that tests the viability of that concept.
It may be some time before you're physically flipping between TV channels, but expect it. Until then, make peace with your remote -- it won't be around for long!
