Medicine for the Earth

The power of awareness is truly immense, and is ultimately what we rely on to save the environmental devastation of the earth. Breeding global consciousness is precisely the concept behind the Earthine pills.

Packaged just like medical pills for people, "the medicine for your earth" acts to treat the ailments of the planet. Each recycled paper box has 16 tiny tree seeds packaged in the same type of blisters pills are often found in.

Earthine is the creative brainchild of Italian designer, Paolo Cappello, who entered his concept in the Greener Gadgets Design Conference.

Cappello's vision is that people around the world who receive these packages plant their seedlings and hopefully cause the growth of new trees. "This will be the best cure for earth diseases but also it will be a cure for future mankind that will live in a better place," the optimistic Italian says.

He has woven technology into his innovation too. Each box is stamped with its own unique code which would be entered on www.earthine.com (not in existence yet) and used to connect like-minded people committed to the same cause. The site allows people to input the data of the location and which they planted their seedlings. Based on this data, an automatically updated calculation displays the rise in oxygen created as a result of the planting and a decrease in the amount of pollution and deforestation.

I would LOVE to get a few boxes of Earthine. They are such a great gift, and a way to give back generously the the earth that is so good to us. They're light and compact too; it would be the perfect addition to any hiker's backpack.
