LA-based design studio Kalon presents a look at the Material Studies series, which is essentially a transformed iteration of the Rugosa collection by the studio. The original design is meant for indoor use, featuring bold furniture that is made from broad planks of Western sugar pink and bronzed glass before being upholstered. The Material Studies collection has a minimal design with a powder-coated aluminum build.
The capsule retains the bronzed glass detail with the addition of GreenGuard-certified textile that makes it suitable for outdoor use. Co-founder of Kalon, Johannes Pauwen speaks about the collection, stating "In materially reimagining current collections from the studio, we intend to produce work that pushes this relationship in adaptable and empowering ways. We wanted the materials to be innately familiar and to evoke comfort and ease. Every choice was intentional and leaned towards an effortless and casual design. Translating the collection for outdoor use, everything changes."
