Swirling Head Sculptures

Artist Manolo Valdes Creates Outdoor Exhibit for the NY Botanical Gardens

Artist Manolo Valdes has put together a stunning outdoor exhibition at The New York Botanical Gardens in the Bronx. It centers around whimsical sculptures of giant heads. Although the image that description may strike up in people's heads isn't very flattering, the sculptures are breathtaking. The heads themselves are ambiguously minimal. Manolo Valdes has crowned them with intricate designs that are strikingly fantastical.

Comprised of seven bronze, steel and aluminum sculptures, Manolo Valdes' Monumental Sculpture exhibit was inspired by the Botanical Garden's natural landscape of ferns, trees and palm fronds. 'Butterflies' is particularly poignant. It was first conceived three years ago Manolo Valdes witnessed a sunbathing man with monarch butterflies swirling around his head in Central Park.
