Designers are always looking to incorporate novel materials in their pieces and Ying Chang is setting himself apart with the launch of his new collection dubbed Malleable State. The furniture and homeware collection boasts shelves, stools tables, mirrors, and waterproof vases.
"I chose paper as my medium because it is one of the most commonly used and discarded materials," noted Chang about the collection. "By applying a craft approach to paper, I was able to explore and expand its charismatic limits. The results reflect and play on our perception of value."
The Malleable State series was created by mashing small pieces of paper together to create a pulp, then using large sheets to create a smooth outer surface. When dried, the combination of glue and paper creates a clay-like compose.
