The world may be filled with various office supplies, but there is a shortage of eco-friendly stationery -- until the Maizy collection. Comprised of six pieces (a radio, clock, calculator and pocket light), each product is made out of polylactide (PLA), a bioplastic derived from cornstarch. Designers Simone Spalvieri and Valentina Del Ciotto observe, "A design object must be capable to identify an epoch. Bioplastic is an interesting material that can identifies our epoch."
Created for French manufacturer Lexon, the Maizy collection is very affordable despite the fact that many biopolymer-based objects run on the expensive side. The design studio was forced to get creative when Lexon requested an economical line. They opted for minimalist forms with green accents that highlight most important features of each product in the Maizy collection.
