For the Spring/Summer 2017 Maison Margiela couture show at Paris Fashion Week, renowned editorial and runway makeup artist Pat McGrath created a series of unique makeup looks to complement the looks by designer John Galliano.
Just as a few strings of white thread were draped across the body of a red coat modeled by Mayowa Nicholas, the faces of a few models were accented with actual pieces of thread, rather than makeup that would be just as capable as creating similar results when viewed from afar.
When one begins to view the details in the collection as a whole, the Maison Margiela couture outfits seem to offer a commentary on privacy, filters and personal identity, especially in the age of technology and selfies.
