In her 'Ball and Chain' series, artist Alice Hope gives artwork a magnet design by piling on strings of magnetic pellets. Playing with colors as well as the thickness of pellets, the artist creates giant textured canvasses that are absolutely laden with heavy strips of metal.
She then hangs the artwork up on the gallery wall and allows it to morph and change over time as the weight of the magnets slowly starts to slide down and shift position. Bending to the sheer magnetic force, the artwork looks different each day so that every time it is seen, it is a new experience for the viewer.
Alice Hope uses the magnet design of her 'Ball and Chain' series to incorporate the laws of physics into art.
