Plant Pot-Inspired Buildings

This Maggie's Centre Building Embraces Plants' Therapeutic Qualities

The Maggie's Centres drop-in care facilities have done a great job assisting people suffering from cancer; now the Maggie's Yorkshire development, built to provide a calm and relaxed home for support services, is being envisioned with a design reminiscent of greenery-filled plant pots.

Designed by Heatherwick Studio, this Maggie's Centre takes the form of a number of units joined together in order to facilitate free movement between units. Each section is home to a rooftop garden.

The design aims to provide a pleasing, calming and uplifting environment that is a stark contrast to the typically pale, bland and sterile appearance of typical hospital campuses. The therapeutic effect of the plants is expected to benefit both visitors to the centre as well as the surrounding community.
