Luxo by Everyware is Inspired by the Work of Marcel Duchamp

In spite of its hi-tech qualities, Luxo by Everyware, a creative computing group founded by Hyunwoo Bang and Yunsil Heo, is inspired by a much more traditional medium: painting. It is specifically influenced by French-American artist Marcel Duchamp's first work that engendered much controversy, Nude Descending a Staircase, No. 2. The artists write, "In a single frame, it shows elements of both the fragmentation and synthesis of the Cubists, and the movement and dynamism of the Futurists."

Luxo by Everyware embodies this dynamism by freely moving an LED light on the tip of its long arm. By doing so, it creates stunning vibrant patterns of light that is subsequently captured using long-exposure photography. Luxo by Everyware can also be programmed to depict familiar three dimensional images including domes, disks and flowers.
