Trash Bin Pools

Louisa Dawson Juxtaposes Poverty to Luxury with These Ironic Sculptures

To Louisa Dawson the idea of swimming around in a dumpster takes on a slightly modified (and more pleasant) connotation than it would for the rest of us. While the image of rooting around for trash would cause most of to infer that A) you've lost something and are in desperate need of retrieving it or B) your life has taken a turn for the worse.

These rehabilitated dumpsters from the artist's 'Temporary Displacement' project juxtaposes luxury to poverty resulting in ironic and evocative structures. In regards to her work Louisa Dawson says, "I connect ideas about changes in urban environments, the politics of public space, and the social inequalities of travel and mobility."

Evocative and engaging, these garbage bin-themed pools illustrate the dichotomy between comfort and destitute and the images that invoke those associations.
