Pick up any lotion tube—more than likely, it's made almost entirely out of plastic. La Roche-Posay is on a mission to change this with its first cardboard-based tube, which helps to reduce the amount of plastic required for manufacturing by 45%. The eco-friendly cosmetic packaging is being introduced for the brand's new Anthelios moisturizing sunscreen body lotion, which offers protection from the sun's rays and environmental stressors.
Although the tubes are not recyclable, the cardboard-based tubes are said to have the lowest carbon footprint in their category, as many other cosmetic tubes also cannot be recycled due to the specific plastics used. As Laetitia Toupet, International General Manager of La Roche-Posay says, "We intend to extend this experimental technology to other iconic products of the brand and to offer it in as many countries as possible."
