The levitating light bulb by Chris Rieger is something straight from the Jetsons. Chris Rieger from Queensland, Australia, is an Electrical Engineering student and the first person to really one up Thomas Edison’s original design.
The light bulb is as Rieger says in his YouTube video, "a combination of a magnetic wireless power transfer system and a magnetic levitation control system." Rieger uses powerful magnets that are attached to the light power system, which is then placed underneath another set of magnets.
The device is then able to float freely in the air. Reiger uses a 3 watt LED light to display the futuristic device. His levitation device is not just a funky light fixture, but a prototype for other small objects to levitate. Maybe the hovercraft is closer than previously expected.
