In an effort to end the stigma around "sex talk," sexual wellness brand LELO recently submitted an application for the first "official" sex emoji to Unicode. In light of the ongoing pandemic and subsequent stay-at-home orders, many individuals were used to conducting their day-to-day activities online, including discussions around sexual wellness. As a result, the brand hopes people can stop "hiding" behind the eggplant and peach emoji and express their feeling authentically.
"Sexting plays an essential part of 21st-century sexual communication. The language it develops and the anticipation it builds for couples across the world greatly contributes to healthy and sustainable romantic relationships," says Zhana Vrangalova, PhD., professor of human sexuality at New York University and sexpert for LELO. "I applaud this campaign from LELO for fighting for global sexual liberation and raising awareness about the increasing censorship surrounding sex."
