The Landscape of Sound chair visualizes sound waves in a beautiful way. Although similar concepts have been done before, this piece of furniture offers a much more subtle interpretation of the particular sound that was worked with. In fact, the texture of the Landscape of Sound chair resembles a rippling body of water more than anything else.
Designed by Erica Sellers, a recent graduate from the Rhode Island School of Design, the Landscape of Sound chair represents the song 'Symphonia IX' by Grimes. Using music software, Sellers converted the curves and oscillations that were originally in a two-dimensional form into a three-dimensional form using the modeling software Rhino 5.0. That digital 3D form was then converted into files for a CNC machine in order for the physical chair to be created.
