A team of Italian coffee-lovers has developed what they claim to be the world's first electromagnetic induction coffee maker, 'La Fenice.' Their fully functioning prototype can make both Italian espresso and American filter coffee, while using up to 80% less energy than traditional coffee makers.
La Fenice's design features an electromagnetic induction heater that automatically heats the water when the machine is turned on, allowing the machine to be turned off when it's not being used. Most coffee machines on the market either take several minutes to bring the water up to the right temperature, or need to be left on all day.
Despite being a modern coffee-making marvel, La Fenice's design is very much inspired by early 20th century coffee machines. It features separate nozzles for espresso and filtered coffee, and works with both ground coffee and coffee capsules.
