This Kim Høltermand Series is Elegant

There is something elegant and serene about black and white photography and Danish photographer Kim Holtermand is aware of this. His latest series, 'Monochronos,' is an exquisite monochromatic exploration of landscapes and buildings.

The photographs capture the essential qualities of their subjects while presenting an uncommon, almost alien perspective to them. In what is presumably a silo, the camera has been pointed upward, its shutter opening and closing and so a photograph is born. The walls of the silo are painted with shadow, while light pours through an opening at its top. The image is defined but not overstated.

Black and white photography often has the appealing effect of highlighting the essential forms of subjects while muting noisy elements. It does so through imbuing scenes with a uniform color-scheme that creates a sort of harmony. Monochronos is an elegant illustration of this.
