Jessica Davis from Santa Barbara has officially launched a sustainable scrubwear line named Kelp Clothing, which prominently features seaweed as a primary material. This innovative choice stems from Davis’s keen observation of the increasing prevalence of fast fashion within the medical sector.
"[...] I started looking into the materials that these scrub lines were using and it was really eye opening," Davis said. "We’re on a mission to heal the sick as nurses. And what we’re wearing, fast fashion, not only pollutes the environment but potentially contributes to illness. So I started looking into other options."
Davis was inspired by the growing commercial applications of seaweed in various industries. Her research highlighted the numerous benefits of using this renewable resource, including its softness, biodegradability, and minimal environmental impact. Kelp Clothing's new collection is set to debut soon.
