The PVC sculptures by Kang Duck-Bong bring to mind speedy characters like The Flash because of its human shape and ability to appear as if in constant fast motion. Although these statues don't move or save citizens in a city attacked by evil enemies, these art pieces will attract the attention of many as they are interesting and cool to look at. The fact that they are made of PVC tubes makes them even more intriguing.
The optical effect occurs by the way the tubes are put together. The Koren artist collected the pipes and covered them in a coat of urethane paint. Additionally, the cylindrical containers are glued unevenly, creating rough edges and a blurry appearance that intensifies the sense of movement.
The PVC sculptures by Kang Duck-Bong will be exhibited at Gallery 4Walls in Seoul through December 23; they are part of his solo show called Disguise.
