Abandoned Office Shoots

This Joerg Metzner Series is Eery

Chicago-based photographer Joerg Metzner's recent series 'Unmoved' explores an office building that appears suddenly abandoned by workers moments before the photographs were taken.

A ladder is left in the middle of a storage room aisle. Chairs are turned askew as though people were sitting on them seconds earlier. Paperclips are strewn haphazardly around a desk. This evidence of activity without any actual activity creates an atmosphere of eeriness that wafts from the photographs into the viewer's imagination. One naturally begins to create background stories to account for the conspicuous lack of people.

Unmoved is effective at engaging its audience through involving them in the artwork. It doesn't beat the viewer over the head with some cryptic, esoteric message; rather, it subtly poses questions.
