The Jeremy Laing Spring 2012 Collection is Inspired by a Decaying Earth

My favorite aspect of the fashion world and runway presentations is learning where designers get their inspiration from, and the Jeremy Laing Spring 2012 collection has one of the most interesting background stories of New York Fashion Week so far this season.

Laing told Style.com that he was inspired by a trip he took to Joshua Tree, California, and particularly to his recent appreciation of the beauty of decay and erosion. "There was something about the stillness of the landscape," he explains. "It seems so permanent and monumental, but of course it's all changing and going away -- you just don't see it."

That inspiration was easily noticed in the stunning creations that Laing sent down the runway. "[C]racked, mud-dyed silk, hammered satin, and technical linens that had been treated to restrain the fabric's natural wrinkle" were prominent in the Jeremy Laing Spring 2012 collection, and the softness of the pieces added to the dark, dreariness (in the best way possible) of the presentation.
