Suspending the Surreal

Jeremy Kohm Photographs Subjects Like Female Breakdancers

Jeremy Kohm, an award winning Canadian advertising and editorial photographer, captures the calm and the surreal with his images that consistently examine form, function and scale. His most recent work focuses on Fly Antics, an all-girl breakdance crew. The pictures contain simple poses in a very stylized but basic setting which result in some truly unique photographs.

With a background in English literature he made the transition to photography but held on to the idea of creating work that has a greater and deeper subtext. His true photographic education came in the form of assisting some of the top photographers in the Canadian advertising and editorial industry including a two-year stint working full time for Chris Gordaneer at the prestigious Westside Studio in Toronto. His client roster includes Advil, Ameriprise, Cadbury, Harry Rosen and the United Nations.
