ANDANTE is an interactive sculpture made by artist Jen Lewin and is part of Lewin’s Flux series.
Jen Lewin is a new media artist known for her interactive sculptures that encourage play among those who encounter them. Her pieces bring together art, technology, and community.
The musical term andante means a "slow tempo, or a gradual, fluid motion." ANDANTE uses music, dance, and visual arts in a way to immerse its participants into the piece. When people interact with it, they become both part of the art as well as a creator of art.
The piece uses sensors that participants place their hands under, which then triggers the lights and sounds of that specific note or tone, which is loosely based on a pentatonic scale.
ANDANTE is located along the sidewalk of Paseo in Doral, Florida.
