Popular Chinese e-commerce company JD.com has officially launched a physical mall in Xi'an, China. The new shopping mall blends physical and digital elements to create a unique "phygital" space that aims to promote the company's omnichannel retail experience.
The 42,000-square meter mall will feature five floors and house over 200,000 items from 150 domestic and international brands. In addition, the company intends for the JD mall experience to be highly immersive and interactive. Shoppers will be able to scan QR codes on in-store items and place orders through the 'WeChat Mini Program' via their mobile devices. Once an order is placed JD will deliver the selected items directly to their doorsteps.
Further blending the virtual with the real, the mall will feature a variety of unique tech devices and interactive events to heighten the shopping experience. These will include holographic projections, VR equipment, an AI-powered robot, a virtual live stream room, and a transparent computer room.
