Cartoonized Self-Portraits

Japanese Contemporary Artist Takashi Murakami Unveils Portrait Series

Takashi Murakami, the Japanese contemporary artist well known for his signature colorful cartoon flower pattern design, just unveiled a new portrait series.

The artist displayed his work at this years Art Basel Miami Beach show. The paintings display the flower pattern design in the background and has superimposed portraits of various people, one of which is of himself with an adorable and cuddly puppy. The other portrait shows artist Kaws with his four-foot tall Companion sculpture. The great thing about this series is that anybody who wishes to have a self portrait of themselves done can commission Murakami to do it for you.

It would really be quite a special treat if you could get your own customized portrait from such an internationally prolific Japanese contemporary artist, though I can imagine that it would cost a pretty penny to do so.
