Berlin-based photographer and filmmaker Iwajla Klinke pushes the boundaries of traditional photography in the portraits she shoots. In an exhibit set for Berlin in April, 2011 Iwajla Klinke will showcase her most recent and discussed series called Ritual Memories.
In Ritual Memories, Iwajla Klinke displays her fascination with the way cultures adorn bodies sacredly for religious and spiritual ceremonies and applies her own twist. The subjects in her photo shoot are pale and nude to expose the bizarre objects placed on them.
The subjects in the shoot bare raw meat, dead mice and ducks, insects and evening hot dripping candle wax. Iwajla Klinke adds laced accessories to accent the models.
At first glance of Iwajla Klinke’s photo shoot, anyone can agree it’s outlandish yet captivating. It will be on display at STYX Projects Berlin this upcoming month.
