"What iSchool did you graduate from?" That could be an interview question of the future if a new academic craze catches on.
Abilene Christian University is tossing around the idea of a new mobile learning initiative that will see all students receive their course information via iPhone or iPod Touch. ACU will send all freshmen details on school work including homework, assignments, in-class surveys and exams.
The Mobile Learning program will be "A Vision of Convergence in Higher Ed," according to the school, a private university with about 5,000 students in Abilene, Texas.
They launched a movie called connected which helps share their vision better.
"This fictional day-in-the-life account highlights some of the potential benefits in a higher education setting when every student, faculty, and staff member is 'connected,' the ACU site says. "Though the applications and functions portrayed in the film are purely speculative, they're based on needs and ideas uncovered by our research - and we've already been making strides to transform this vision of mobile learning (mLearning) into reality."
