African Diasporic Pavilions

Ini Archibong' Pavilion of the African Diaspora is called The Sail

The Sail is the brainchild of Ini Archibong, whose goal was to create a Pavilion of African diaspora "for the black voices leading us into the future." Ini Archibong worked with London Design Biennale to create a platform for conversation against racial inequality.

This pavilion of cultural resistance was first conceived in 2019 to provide members of the diaspora with a public space specifically designed for people of color. The lack of such monuments drove the designer to launch The Sail as one of three structures of its kind. Archibong's first structure stands at the Somerset House in London. The Wave will debut in New York in the fall, and The Shell will stand at art Basel in Miami as of December.
