The Independent Wheelchair Assistant Gives a Power Boost When Needed

Designer Oscar Fernandez is making it easier for those confined to wheelchairs to get around with his Independent Wheelchair Assistant. The Independent Wheelchair Assistant is an extra set of electrically powered wheels that eliminates the need for electric scooters/power chairs.

For short trips around town, a wheelchair is fine. Longer jaunts often require a wheelchair user to switch from a manually powered wheelchair to an electric scooter. These extra pieces of equipment cost money and can't exactly be switched into seamlessly. The Independent Wheelchair Assistant would attach to the user's wheelchair and allow them to get a boost of electric power whenever they needed it. The IWA can be detached and stored in front of buildings for when the user has reached his destination. Eliminating the need for a power chair would save the wheelchair-bound money and make life easier overall.
