Compassionate Anti-Poaching Communities

Photographer Documents Illegal Poaching Efforts in Kenya

In the war against illegal poaching in Kenya, it's heartwarming to see that it's not only the big guys trying to stop the poachers from these atrocities, but the local communities as well.

National Geographic photographer and filmmaker Ami Vitale documents the efforts of these local communities and sheds light on the ongoing and inhumane issue of illegal wildlife trade and illegal poaching of animals in northern Kenya.

Having traveled around the world to photograph social and political issues, the compassionate Vitale has launched a campaign with The Nature Conservancy and the Northern Rangelands Trust to help promote local communities who are trying to protect wildlife from the criminal poachers causing havoc and devastation to rhinos, elephants and many other animals.

"Developing the capacity of the people who are instrumental on the ground and closest to the stories can leave a lasting impact. Adding more community engagement and advocacy allows us to get their stories out and heard around the world," says Vitale.
