Traffic-Tracking Clocks

This IKEA Clock Hack Turns the Device into a Traffic Congestion Indicator

Knowing when it's the right time to leave the office in order to beat traffic is a constant battle for many, so this IKEA clock hack aims to let users know without reaching for their smartphone.

Entitled the '1Sheeld,' the clock system takes a clock purchased from IKEA and outfits it with an Arduino unit and a series of LEDs. After the components are affixed to the clock it will illuminate red to indicate that traffic is heavy on a particular route or green to let you know congestion is minimal.

The '1Sheeld' IKEA clock hack is designed to check traffic conditions every five minutes to let users know when it's best to leave to head home. The DIY project can be recreated using a series of components and instructions available online from the Arduino team.
