Graphically Compelling Typography

The Designers at Icinori Create Worlds out of Alphabets

Artists Mayumi Otero and Raphael Urwiller formed the publishing studio Icinori where they continue to create an array of fantastic graphic artwork. An ongoing series of theirs is 'Lettrines,' a collection of drawings that uses letters from the alphabet as the base for vibrant and diverse illustrations.

The style of each letter is entirely distinguished to the point where it appears that each letter was done by a separate artist. With some letters being used repeatedly, it's clear that Otero and Urwiller don't need much in order to be inspired to create a wide range of graphically compelling artwork.

In some instances the letters appear to be monuments within a bizarre reality, creating the sense that the individual characters are part of some vast and intricate story.
