Autonomous Public Transportation Systems

BIG and Hyperloop One Will Build Hyperloop Pods in Dubai

Dubai has been on the cutting edge of urban planning for at least a decade, and the city in the United Arab Emirates will keep up with that reputation by becoming the first in the world to have a system of Hyperloop pods and portals constructed throughout it. Master planning architecture firm Bjarke Ingels Group (or BIG) and Hyperloop One have partnered to create an autonomous public transportation system throughout the city and its surrounding area.

Hyperloop pods and portals have made news recently because of their theoretical benefits. The Hyperloop pods are encased in vacuum-sealed tubes, and that reduced friction allows them to travel at speeds of up to 760 miles per hour. Installing such a system is not only more efficient from a transportation perspective, but it is also more energy efficient than competing mass transit.
