With his latest installation 'Hypercube,' Australian artist Kit Webster explores the emotional and psychological effects he can inflict upon his viewer through the manipulation of light.
The installation is made up of a coaxial cube fully equipped with an LED set-up spanning 120 meters. Webster can control the light through custom-made software, allowing him to flip through prerecorded light patterns. He has the power to speed the cube up to near-hysteria, and then, just as easily, slow it down to a steady, peaceful rhythm.
The project creates an interesting juxtaposition; on its own, the cube is a simple, minimalist structure that evokes a sense of balance. However, it transforms completely, becoming the host to "range of intricate choreographies."
