Seasonal Body Paintings

Huang Yan Re-Creates the Calender on Human Skin

Huang Yan has no time for canvas, and instead uses human skin to create his artwork. This series is titled 'The Four Seasons,' and features four faces painted to represent the different sections of the calendar.

The white-shaded faces are quite remarkable to gaze upon, as the attention to detail is more intricate than a circuit board. One can barely tell there is a face behind the paint except for the emotionless eyes that quietly hide behind the artwork. Yan also uses the bodies of his models to display snowy mountains and lanky trees.

The faces of Huang Yan reflect the style of ancient Chinese art and remind one that the boundaries of painting are not restricted to just canvas.
