'Heroic Food Farm' is a charitable housing initiative that yields many benefits for those involved. Based in rural New York, this non-for-profit farm tackles two major social issues: the first is the high unemployment rates for military veterans and the other is a lack of agricultural workers.
A complex will be built that includes eight micro-housing units for veterans and a larger community house for lounging, dining and instructions. The houses will also focus on low-energy consumption and will be built to take advantage of the picturesque vistas Hudson Valley offers.
The veterans involved will be mentored by farmers and placed at nearby farms to learn the trade. The veteran farm site will also eventually raise livestock and grow produce in greenhouses.
