Burnt Bread Mosaics

The Henry Hargreaves 'Toasted' Collection Illustrates Celebrities Crisply

I'm sure some of you have seen celebrity portraits made from burnt toast before, but this Henry Hargreaves 'Toasted' collection puts a spin on the concept by using burned bread as pixels to create mosaic images of famous faces. Each individual speck is indeed a slice of Wonderbread that Hargreaves has painstakingly cooked to perfection to get the particular hue he was looking for. I managed to count up the slices of the Guevara portrait -- yes, I am that dedicated -- and Hargreaves used a total of 928 slices of bread in it alone!

The Henry Hargreaves 'Toasted' collection features Marilyn Monroe, Che Guevara, Jim Morrison, and George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney and John Lennon of The Beatles.

Implications - Artists often use celebrities as muses because they know their audiences will readily empathize with works that are already familiar to them, namely celebrity faces.
